What Has Peter Obi Done As IPOB's Sit-at-Home Paralyses Economy Of The South East? – Reno Omokri

In a recent tweet, political commentator Reno Omokri has called into question the actions of Peter Obi, former Vice Presidential candidate, regarding the ongoing sit-at-home protests organized by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the Southeast geopolitical zone. Omokri criticized Obi for his perceived silence and lack of intervention as the sit-at-home orders continue to paralyze the economy, social activities, and political life in the region.

Comparing Obi’s response to that of other prominent politicians during crises, Omokri highlighted the actions taken by Waziri Atiku Abubakar and Bola Tinubu. When some Arewa groups issued a quit notice to Igbos in Northern Nigeria in 2017, Atiku Abubakar condemned the action and intervened to secure the withdrawal of the notice. Similarly, during the crisis surrounding the establishment of Amotekun in the Southwest, Tinubu played a pivotal role in calming tensions.

Omokri pointed out that Obi’s lack of response to the ongoing sit-at-home protests was concerning, especially considering the deteriorating security situation in the Southeast. He criticized Obi for seemingly disregarding the reported incidents of violence, including the beatings of schoolchildren and married women by enforcers of the sit-at-home, as well as the shootings of innocent Nigerians conducting their lawful activities by unknown gunmen.

Instead of addressing the emergency situation, Omokri noted that Obi chose to issue congratulations to recipients of the Diana Award, a move seen by the commentator as misplaced and out of touch with the current challenges facing the region. Omokri emphasized that it was crucial for leaders to prioritize tackling urgent issues rather than focusing on unrelated matters.

The criticisms levied against Peter Obi have sparked a debate among Nigerians, with some expressing disappointment in the perceived inaction of a prominent political figure during a time of crisis. As the sit-at-home protests continue and the security situation in the Southeast remains uncertain, the role and response of leaders like Peter Obi will continue to be closely scrutinized.
