Ohanaeze Faction Claims No Coup in Nigeria without North’s Sanction

According to The Daily Post newspaper, a group within the leading socio-cultural organization of the Igbo ethnic group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has stated that a coup will not occur in Nigeria unless it is approved by the Northern region.

On Sunday, the group led by Okechukwu Isiguzoro expressed their concerns to President Bola Tinubu about the potential risks that lie ahead.

This statement follows the recent series of military coups in the West African sub-region.

In a statement signed by its General Secretary, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the group acknowledged that recent coups serve as a cautionary message against the ongoing manipulation of election outcomes, poor governance, disregard for the rule of law and constitution by the political elite, and the imposition of leaders in Africa by Western powers.

The statement read in part:

“Northern leadership and political leaders are dissatisfied with Tinubu’s presidency and are waiting patiently for the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal verdict on September 16th, 2023, to know their line of action.”

Isiguzoro began discussing the ECOWAS’s intended military intervention in the Nogeria Republic, which aims to reinstate the constitutional order after the occurrence of a military coup.

”The northern leadership shut down President Tinubu’s led ECOWAS planned invasion of Niger Republic through the northern senators, the traditional rulers, and their elder statesmen who are unhappy with the President’s style of leadership and key appointments to Southwest.”

The group praised the Nigerian military for promising unwavering loyalty and devotion to Tinubu, as well as their commitment to protecting and maintaining democracy in the nation.
