Obi, Tinubu, Atiku: Tribunal has fixed Sept 16 for judgement – Charly Boy claims

The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) is reportedly set to deliver judgment on the suit challenging the victory of President Bola Tinubu in the February 2023 presidential election. The court, headed by Justice Haruna Simon Tsamani, has allegedly scheduled Saturday, September 16, as the date for the final ruling.

According to DAILY POST, a Labour Party chieftain and media personality, Charly Boy, made this know his official ‘X’ handle.

The post reads, “OBIDIENTS ARE U Ready? Tribunal (PEPT) has announced that the judgment date for the cases involving Peter Obi and the Labour Party against Bola Tinubu, INEC, Shettima, and APC, as well as the PDP’s case of Atiku against APC, INEC, and Tinubu, is scheduled for September 16, 2023.”

The suit was filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP), and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), along with their presidential candidates, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Mr. Peter Obi, and Princess Chichi Ojei, respectively. They have raised concerns about Tinubu’ s qualification to contest the election, citing allegations of irregularities and malpractices during the voting process.

The petitioners argue that Tinubu did not meet the constitutional requirement of securing a majority of votes cast in the election and 25% of votes in the federal capital territory (FCT) to win. They have also raised questions about Tinubu’ s eligibility due to past indictments, his running mate’ s nomination for another position, academic record, citizenship, and alleged criminal record. Additionally, they challenge the validity of the election, citing alleged corrupt practices and non- compliance with the Electoral Act.

Tinubu’ s legal team has vehemently denied the allegations and has called for the dismissal of the petition. Despite these arguments, the PEPC has reserved judgment and communicated that the verdict’ s delivery date will be conveyed to the involved parties and their lawyers.

While Peter Obi expressed a sense of being ” robbed” of victory and pledged to prove it, Atiku Abubakar labeled the outcome as ” a rape of democracy. ” The tribunal, however, has not issued an official statement regarding the judgment date, maintaining suspense surrounding the final decision.

As Nigeria awaits the judgment, the case highlights the significance of addressing allegations of election irregularities and ensuring a transparent and fair democratic process. The outcome of this case could have significant implications for the nation’ s political landscape and the legitimacy of the election results.
