The United States has warned the Niger junta that if the country’s military authorities do not restore constitutional order, the United States may be forced to become militarily involved.

In a teleconference briefing on Niger on Tuesday, US acting Deputy Secretary Victoria Nuland made the announcement.

“…There is still a lot of motion here on many sides with regard to where the governance situation will go,” she said.

We have a lot of upcoming regional meetings and discussions with allies and partners, so we will be keeping a careful eye on that.

Tinubu mourns Pastor Taiwo Odukoya

In the wake of the death of Fountain of Life Church Senior Pastor Taiwo Odukoya, President Bola Tinubu expressed his condolences to the church’s congregation and extended family.

On Monday, Pastor Odukoya passed away at the age of 67.

According to a statement released by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media & Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, the president has extended his deepest condolences to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), and the associates of the highly revered religious leader, whose teaching, outreach, and good work pushed the boundaries of charitable endeavour, especially in the fields of education and healthcare.

On Tuesday, Vice President Kashim Shettima announced that Nigeria could reduce its annual carbon dioxide emissions by more than 15 million tonnes if the country eliminated its fuel subsidy.

At the National Council on Climate Change’s one-day workshop titled “Unpacking the outcomes of the 58 sessions of the subsidiary bodies of the United Nations framework convention on climate change,” Shettima made these remarks.

Senator Ibrahim Hassan, who stood in for Shettima as his Deputy Chief of Staff, reported that Nigeria was on track to meet the nationally-determined contribution targets.

During Tinubu’s visit, Okonjo-Iweala discussed WTO plans to assist Nigerians.

According to Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director General of the World Trade Organisation, her meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja on Tuesday was targeted at alleting the economic misery besetting Nigerians.

After the meeting, Okonjo-Iweala addressed the media and emphasised that her “quiet visit,” which was not an official WTO mission, was intended to help the Nigerian people.

It’s no secret that life outside Nigeria is tough for Nigerians. I myself am here on a somewhat low-key visit.

“So, this was not really an official WTO mission, but we were able to engage with Mr. President to talk about ‘what are the kinds of programmes that could be put in place to make sure that the suffering of Nigerians is being alleted?'”
