No Private Meeting Between Governor Adeleke, Makinde – Osun Governor's Aide

The Osun State Government has disputed that Governor Ademola Adeleke and his Oyo State counterpart, Seyi Makinde, met privately in Abuja. It further stated that both men’s interactions were public, and that insinuations of infighting among functionalities of both governments were the work of those benefitting from the party’s lack of meaningful leadership in the zone.

The state administration stated on Monday in a signed statement by the governor’s spokeswoman, Olawale Rasheed, that Governor Adeleke had no private talks with his Oyo State counterpart. “Governor Adeleke had visited the Oyo State Governor’s Lodge to see the newly renovated Oyo State Government House, as Osun State government is embarking on a similar renovation of Osun Government House located within Asokoro,” according to the statement.

“It was also an opportunity for both leaders to assess the states’ relationship and chart a course to strengthen the Peoples Democratic Party within the South West zone, including the issue of filling the party’s zonal leadership vacancy. “The interactions were open, and the issue of begging and prostration was never raised because there was nothing to plead and beg about. “The venue was in the living room, with a photo opportunity.” In the presence of everyone, the two leaders determined to unify for the party in the zone, necessitating the necessity to conduct an emergency zonal meeting later this week.

“All insinuations about infighting either among Osun Government functionaries or otherwise, are the work of those profiting from the party’s lack of substantive leadership in the zone. “There is no infighting within Governor Adeleke’s cabinet over the planned meeting, nor is there any disagreement about when and how to hold the zonal meeting. “We therefore urge members of the PDP across the SouthWest to disregard the fake news and focus on making the upcoming zonal meeting a success in the best interests of the party.”
