'No Lawmakers Fix Their Own Salaries And Allowances In Any Part Of The World' – Liborous Oshoma

A Lawyer and Public affairs analyst, Liborous Oshoma has alleged that no lawmakers fixes their own salaries and allowances in any part of the world aside from Nigeria. He said in an interview with Arise TV that based on the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Lawmakers can only demand for increments in their salaries and allowances. According to him, the heavy cost of governance in Nigeria is from the chambers of the legislature which have not been transparent about their monthly earnings.

He said, ”You find out that there is a situation where the National assembly members now completely jettisoned the constitution because they are a distinct government. Their independence does not amount to fixing their salaries. No lawmakers fix their own salaries and allowances in any part of the world. They can vote for an increment or a reduction in their salaries and their allowances But it’s depending on the realities of their time in office. But here we find out that there is a heavy cost of governance.”
