Niger Coup: FG Order Closure of Border, Reveal Recent Closure of Border Not Against Nigerians

The acting Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, has said that the recent closure of Ilela Border, in Sokoto was not meant to inflict hardship on Nigerians.

This information was conveyed on Friday by Abdullahi Maiwada, the National Public Relations Officer of NCS. Following the recent ousting of a democratically elected government in Niger Republic, the Nigerian government took the step to close the Illela border, which marks the Nigeria-Niger boundary. During his visit to the Illela Border Station to assess the border closure exercise, Adeniyi mentioned this in the statement.

Adeniyi conveyed his satisfaction with the residents’ adherence to the directive, noting that the action was mandated by the Economic Community of West African Countries, with the Nigerian President serving as its chairman.

He expressed optimism about the effectiveness of this endeavor and emphasized President Tinubu’s dedication to reestablishing tranquility in this region.
