Tinubu committed to improving citizens’ welfare – Okonjo Iweala

The Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, WTO, Dr Ngoziq Okonjo-Iweala, said yesterday that President Bola Tinubu was committed to improving the lives of Nigerians.

She also said as the person at the helm of the World Trade Organisation, WTO, she would, alongside her team, do her best to support Nigeria at this difficult time.

Okonjo-Iweala stated this while speaking with State House correspondents after meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The WTO DG, flanked by the former Minister of State for Health during the Goodluck Jonathan, Mohammed Ali Pate, said they saw the President and that the focus of their discussion was on what they would do to support Nigeria.

She said they were contemplating a grassroots programme they could put in place to help young people as well as women.

She said the WTO would look at the kind of assistance it could give to the people in agriculture, textile and even in establishing the pharmaceutical industry.

NLC Calls for More Modular Refineries’ Licences in Edo

The Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Edo State Chapter, Odion Olaye, has called on the federal government to issue more modular refinery licences to operators in the state to expand the state’s refinery output.

He noted that the state was already leading the charge of boosting local production of refined petroleum products.

According to a statement, Olaiye also noted that the State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has set the right example by making the state a conducive environment for investment in the oil and gas sector, noting that two modular refineries are operational in the state.

Niger Delta youths hail Tinubu for nominating Okotete as Minister

Niger Delta Youths have hailed President Bola Tinubu for appointing Hon Stella Okotete as a Minister, saying she would add great value to the government.

The youths drawn from various groups under the leadership of Dr Micheal Eyituoyo Merogun, candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC for the Delta State House of Assembly seat in Warri South Constituency 1 in the last general election also lashed at those opposed to Okotete’s nomination, dismissing them as enemies of development.

Flanked by Dagogo Isheke, Aleri Agindotan; Lucky Akoehule, Engr Uwatse  Samson and other youth leaders in the region, Hon Eyituoyo said the sterling records of Hon Stella Okotete were in the public space for everyone to see, adding that the National Assembly should ignore what they dubbed frivolous allegations against her. 

Fire guts warehouse in Onitsha

Fire on Tuesday night gutted a warehouse in a three-storey building at No. 64 Venn Road in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The is contained in a statement signed by the Director/Fire Chief, Anambra Fire Service, Mr Martin Agbili, on Wednesday in Onitsha.

Agbili said the Anambra Fire Service received a distress call of a fire outbreak in a three-storey building at No 64 Venn Road by Sanish in Onitsha at about 9:46 p.m. on Tuesday.

“We immediately deployed our fire trucks and our diligent firefighters to the scene of the fire.

“The cause of the fire is unknown and no life was lost.

“The fire partly affected the building and affected the goods on the ground floor as many vacuum flasks in the warehouse were destroyed,” he said.

Agbili said that his men were able to control the fire from spreading to other buildings around.
