'My Great Grand Uncle Papa Herbert Macaulay Was The First Nigerian Politician' – Bode George
A Former PDP National Chairman, Chief Bode George has alleged that his great grand uncle, Herbert Macaulay was the First Politician in Lagos. Chief George speaking in an Arise TV interview stated that his uncle lifestyle was a typical example of the kind of life expected from every Lagosian to ensure co-existence. He contended that dividing the Yorubas across religious lines will not work in the South West region.
He said, ”Please I want to beg the Professor that led his team to protest, please don’t bring religion into the affairs of Lagos state. My great grand uncle Papa Herbert Macaulay was the first Nigerian politician. He was called snake on the streets in Lagos. He moves with everybody. That is the kind of life we want and not dividing us into Muslim, Christian, and traditionalist. It does not work in Lagos and especially in the South West. The Yorubas have all the three.”
