Bayelsa Gov’ship: I Won’t Spill Blood To Retain My Seat – Gov Diri

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has vowed not spill blood of any citizen to retain his office.

Diri, who is seeking reelection is one of the major candidates of the November 11 governorship election in the state.

Speaking at Ogbolomabiri Community of Nembe local government area after assessing the security situation in neighbouring Bassambiri Community on Saturday, he said his administration would do everything humanly possible to restore peace and order in the Nembe communities.

Men of the police Strategic Weapons and Tactical (SWAT) team had on August 12 invaded Bassambiri community on the orders of the Acting Inspector General of Police to arrest some suspected hoodlums in the community and restore peace after last February uprising in the community.

Former Taraba PDP chairman Kona dies

A former chairman of Taraba state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and governorship aspirant during the 2023 elections, Victor Bala Kona, reportedly died in Abuja after an illness.

A family source disclosed that Kona had been in a London hospital for treatment following “a complicated heart problem” and returned to Nigeria on Wednesday last week.

His health was said to have worsened again on Friday and was rushed to an Abuja hospital where he passed away in the early hours of Sunday, August 27.

Fani-Kayode seeks end to power cut in Niger Republic

Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Minister of Ation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has called for an end to the power-cut sanction imposed by Nigeria on Niger Republic following the military coup that ousted the country’s elected president.

In a piece titled ‘Does Killing Nigerien Babies Bring Glory to Our Name?’ Fani-Kayode lamented reported deaths of innocent babies and other humanitarian issues resulting from Nigeria’s decision to stop the supply of electricity to the country.

Relying on reports that about 40 babies are dying daily in the crisis-ridden country because hospitals are unable to power their incubators and other life supporting equipment, the former Minister of Culture and Tourism wondered how Nigeria could “inflict such damage and unleash such wickedness and misfortune on innocent people who live just across the border from us and who are essentially our people too.

Alia, Ortom, Condemn Murder Of Justice Igbetar

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth and his predecessor, Chief Samuel Ortom have condemned the murder of a former President, Customary Court of Appeal, Makurdi, Justice Margaret Igbetar.

The condemnation is coming at the heels of a report by the State Command of the Nigeria Police that it has arrested a suspect, Aondohemba Joseph in connection with the murder of the former Judge.

Recall that Justice Igbetar was found dead at her Makurdi residence on Thursday, a few days after she was killed.

In a statement signed by Sir Kula Tersoo, Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor and made available to Daily Independent, Alia maintained that despite her immense contributions to humanity she was gruesomely murdered.
