Senate Continues Screening of Ministerial Nominees

The nation news reported that the Nigerian Senate is set to continue the screening of President Bola Tinubu’s ministerial nominees. Seven nominees are scheduled to appear before the upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly in a session beginning at 11 a.m.

Among the nominees to be screened are Tahir Mamman (Adamawa), Uba Ahmadu (Taraba), Lola John (Lagos), Ishak Salako (Ogun), Bosun Tijani (Ogun), Festus Keyamo (Delta), and Mairiga Mahmud (Kano). Notably, Festus Keyamo, a senior lawyer and former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, and Mrs. Mairiga Mahmud were not part of the original lists earlier transmitted to the Senate by President Tinubu. Their nomination was announced by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, during Friday’s plenary.

The additional inclusion of Mr. Keyamo brings the number of ministers-designate sent to the legislature by the President to 48, a figure that some Nigerians have criticized, citing concerns about the cost of governance. The Senate has already screened 41 nominees in extended sessions since July 31.
