Kogi election: Gov. Bello's aide joins SDP, says APC dead

The build-up to the November 11 Kogi governorship election has made unpleasant inroad into the cabinet of Governor Yahaya Bello. A Special Adviser to the Governor on Internal and Corporate Affairs, Hon. Abdulkarim Isah, popularly known as ECOMOG, has renounced the All Progressives Congress, APC and its policies in the State as he resigned from his appointment and joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

P. M. reported that, ECOMOG, who was an elected local government chairman, was removed and later appointed as a special adviser to the governor.

ECOMOG stated in his letter of resignation dated August 16, 2023, that his interest in and participation in politics were solely for the benefit of his people.

“So, the question is whether I was able to exercise my people’s right over me. I don’t have to second-guess my response, so I’ve decided to go on and consider other options in the interest of the same people,” he said.

Kogi, which has always been in the spotlight, would be counterproductive, according to an ECOMOG statement made available to newsmen, if it continued to be in “doom” as it is now under Alh. Yahaya Bello.

“It is regrettable that Alh. Yahaya Bello’s choice to install Ododo as the APC candidate has killed the APC in the state. As a result, we must support a political party that will help our citizens experience real progress.

The statement cited him as adding, “We are moving to a political party that will receive and support us to realize our aspirations.
