Kaduna APC Governorship Candidate Seeks Ways To End Educational Backwardness In North

By G9ija

The Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Kaduna state, Senator Uba Sani has warned that the education gap between most states in the north and their southern counterparts portends great danger for the northern region and the country in general if nothing is done by the government and stakeholders in the region to address the problem.

Senator Sani also said that the north is presently facing the challenges of poor Education which is evident in the high number of out of school children in the region, pointing out the need for a state of emergency to be declared in the region’s Education sector especially at the basic education level.

The lawmaker who spoke at an interactive session with Journalists in Kaduna, asserted that the funding of education should not be left in the hands of the government alone, but should be a contributory effort that requires and not the sole responsibility of government.

While advocating for a dialogue on how to fund education in the north for the overall interest of the young people, Sani stressed that there must be alternatives for funding of education whereby those in public office, businessmen and civil society organisations will contribute their quota.

He, however, commended Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State for revamping education sector through building and equipping of more classrooms, recruiting and retraining of more qualified teachers amongst other interventions, adding that if elected into office as governor, his administration will prioritise basic education enrolment, which he noted is the needed enabler to self independence.
