Supreme Court: U.S. To Accelerate Atiku’s Case On Release Of Tinubu’s Chicago Records

A federal court in the United States has began proceedings to expedite former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s request to summon President Bola Tinubu’s academic records from Chicago State University (CSU). According to punch , the court rushed Atiku’s request after learning that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate had only 14 days to challenge the election appeals tribunal’s decision at the Supreme Court of Nigeria using the requested papers.

Remember that the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal dismissed Atiku’s challenge against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration as the winner of the 2023 presidential elections on Wednesday.

Following the deadline, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in Chicago advanced the date for in-person arguments of Abubakar, Tinubu, and CSU’s counsel from September 15 to September 12, claiming “urgent circumstances.”

Judge Jeffrey Gilbert stated in court documents obtained by Peoples Gazette: “Upon further contemplation, in light of the exigent circumstances provided by the Application [1] and to account for the likelihood of any appeal of the Court’s order.”

“This matter is scheduled for in-person hearing on 9/12/23 at 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom 1386. Gilbert asked lawyers on both sides of the case to be in court for the hearing, noting that the docket indicated an impending judgement this week.
