Two Former Governorship Aspirants Withdraw From Labour Party Campaign Council In Imo

Martin Agbaso and Kelechi Nwagwu, two former Labour Party (LP) governorship hopefuls in 2023, have reportedly withdrawn from the governorship campaign council of the party’s candidate, Athan Achonu, in Imo state.

According to Vanguard, The withdrawal of the two caused consternation in the state, as certain party leaders urged them to be brave in their decision.

Bright Offurum, Imo State Publicity Secretary of LP, commented on the development, saying Agbaso and Nwagwu have the right to do whatever they want.

“What I can say officially as the party’s spokesman is that the appointment was made by the national body,” he said. The National body of the party appointed Matine Agbaso and Kelechi Nwagwu. Is the campaign council’s national chairman list.

“I can neither confirm nor deny.” However, if it is coming from them, there is no problem with that. It is a democratic republic. They have the authority.”    According to Vanguard, a member of the LP, Onyewuotu Emeka Speedwell, who circulated a report titled: ‘Ochoudo Martin Agbaso, Dr. Peter Obi’s Campaign Council Chairman in Imo State, dissociates himself from Athan Achonu’s Campaign Council List,’

Agbaso was included in the Gubernatorial campaign council without prior consultation or authorization.  “It has been brought to our attention that Ochoudo Martin Agbaso’s name was included in Athan Achonu’s campaign council list without any prior consultation or authorization,” he stated. This conduct is dangerous and demonstrates Athan Achonu’s campaign team’s severe carelessness.

At this important stage, it is critical to emphasise that Ochoudo Martin Agbaso and his Fix Imo Organisation have not decided on a candidate to endorse or the particular role they intend to play in the impending November Governorship election in Imo State.

“Our leader, Ochoudo Martin Agbaso, will support the candidate deemed most credible and capable of delivering excellence to the people of Imo at this time, and he will make that decision public in the coming days,” the statement said.
