I did not sponsor Ruafai Oseni's father burial, Peter Obi breaks silence

In a move to quash rumors and speculations, former Anambra state governor and presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the February 25, 2023 election, Peter Obi, has emphatically denied allegations that he sponsored the burial of journalist Rufai Oseni’ s father, Vanguard reports.

Obi, through his Media Office, expressed his frustration at what he labeled as ” sponsored blackmailers” who were attempting to tarnish his reputation with unfounded claims. Obi’ s statement on Monday vehemently rebuffed the claims that he had financially supported the burial to gain favorable media coverage.

The politician expressed his aversion to engaging in mudslinging and personal attacks, emphasizing that his focus has always been on addressing societal issues and working towards solutions. He clarified that he refrains from responding to baseless allegations but felt the need to address the situation given the involvement of a third party.

” I have never monetarily induced any journalist to speak or write in my favor, ” Obi stated, highlighting his ethical approach to interactions with the media. He noted that he does attend social events and occasions, such as funerals, when invited, as part of his commitment to the community and traditional values.

He expressed that he often brings gifts to such events, adhering to the norms of the Igbo tradition. Despite being challenged on certain occasions by Rufai Oseni in the past, Obi asserted that he had no connection to the journalist’ s family or village.

He expressed bewilderment at the attempt to sully his image without any justifiable reason. ” Our focus in Nigeria should be about rescuing the nation from the many challenges plaguing it, ” he said, urging for a collective effort to uplift the nation and its citizens.

Obi called on those spreading these allegations to redirect their energies towards more constructive pursuits, highlighting the urgent need to tackle poverty, unemployment, and other pressing issues that affect millions of Nigerians. He underscored his unwavering commitment to addressing these challenges for the betterment of the nation.
