Tinubu: We have made it clear that no LP member should accept any appointment from this Govt– LP

The Labour Party, LP, has officially announced a new directive that prohibits all party members from accepting or receiving any form of appointment from the present administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The current scenario involves Labour Party’s presidential aspirant, Peter Gregory Obi, who has taken the initiative to challenge Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the ongoing presidential election petition court proceedings. Obi’s legal action is taking place at the Court of Appeal.

In a recent interaction with SUNDAY SUN, Obiora Ifoh, the Media and Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, expounded on their stance regarding appointments from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. Ifoh emphasized that the party has consistently conveyed a message to its members, urging them to decline any offers of appointments from the current government, underscoring their lack of confidence in its governance.

Obiora Ifoh touched upon the appointment of Prof. Tahir Mamman as the Vice-Chancellor of Baze University. During this discussion, he highlighted the party’s principle by stating that while individuals are free to accept appointments, the Labour Party has strongly advised its members against doing so under the current government. This decision is rooted in the party’s prevailing lack of faith in the administration’s policies and actions.

In a candid expression of their standpoint, Mr. Obiora Ifoh articulated, “While anyone is entitled to consider an appointment, we have unequivocally instructed our members not to engage with appointments from this particular government. Our rationale is grounded in our fundamental skepticism, and we are proud that all our members have dutifully complied with this directive. Our singular focus is dedicated to our own members.”

It should be recalled that the Labour Party has earlier introduced a significant policy change that prohibits its members from accepting appointments from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. This stance aligns with the ongoing legal challenge led by Peter Gregory Obi against the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Obiora Ifoh, the Media and Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, reiterated this directive during a discussion, highlighting their reservations about the government’s credibility and performance. Notably, the party’s decision has been adhered to by all members, reinforcing their dedication to their own priorities and principles.
