Governor Eno Orders One Billion Naira Payment to Ease Fuel Subsidy Removal Impact on Workers

In a compassionate move to allete the impact of the removal of fuel subsidies on workers in Akwa Ibom State, Governor Pastor Umo Eno has approved a series of payments aimed at cushioning the harsh effects. The Governor has directed the immediate release of one billion Naira to settle gratuities for primary school teachers in the state.

Additionally, 800 million Naira have been approved for immediate release as leave grants for Local Government Workers, and 600 million Naira will serve as a part payment of gratuities for state civil servants.

As per Vanguard papers, on Monday, August 7, 2023, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ekerete Udoh, revealed this to journalists in the Governor’s office, emphasizing the Governor’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of the state’s workers. He also announced the approval of staggered leave grants for civil servants, starting this month, and imprest for two months back-to-back for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of the Government.

Furthermore, in a bid to stimulate the economy and put more money in the hands of the people, Governor Eno has taken steps to mobilize all contractors in the state to return to their various project sites. This move is a testament to the Governor’s dedication to fulfilling his campaign promises and completing projects inherited from his predecessor.

Governor Eno, a deeply compassionate leader, understands the challenges faced by the people in the wake of the fuel hike, and he has resolved to introduce more palliatives. In this regard, he is expected to inaugurate a Palliatives Committee in the State, tasked with efficiently managing expected palliatives from both the Federal and State Governments.

The gesture by Governor Eno follows his promise made during a meeting with the leaders of organized labor in the State amid their peaceful protest. The announcement of these payments was met with warm applause and cheers from the assembled labor leaders and members.

The Governor’s proactive approach to addressing the economic challenges faced by workers demonstrates his strong leadership and dedication to the welfare of the citizens of Akwa Ibom State.
