Gov Bassey buys latest technology to detect kidnappers

Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has revealed that the state has acquired technology capable of pinpointing the locations of kidnappers across its territory.

Lately, incidents of kidnapping and armed robbery have surged in various regions of the state.

According to the Daily Post, the governor affirmed that his administration had made substantial investments to quell the heightened insecurity that plagued the state before he assumed office on May 29, 2023.

During the weekend, he addressed the steps he’s taken to crack down on kidnappers, cultists, and armed robbers. He anticipates the technology’s arrival in a few days, stating that it will virtually eliminate the possibility of criminals being involved in these activities.

The entire Calabar creeks, which had served as hideouts for kidnappers, had been thoroughly searched and targeted from the air, rendering it impossible for criminals to escape the law’s watchful eye.

“The imminent technology will complement the efforts of security agencies in rendering the state inhospitable for kidnappers”. “It can detect the whereabouts of kidnappers.

Despite my prior amnesty offer, only a few surrendered their firearms. I’m leaving nothing to chance; I’m going all out. If they disrupt the peace of others, they too will not enjoy it. They coexist among us, and therefore, citizens must cooperate by providing information voluntarily.

“In Bakassi and Akpabuyo Local Government Areas, where criminals once held sway, we had to impose curfews. Today, I’m delighted to report that we’ve eradicated these criminals, allowing people to sleep peacefully in their homes.”

The governor attributed the noticeable reduction in crime rates in the state capital to their unwavering focus on addressing the insecurity challenge.

During the weekend, the Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone Six Command, Jonathan Towuru, unveiled plans to collaborate with the state government in deploying intelligence to enhance security across all parts of the state. He directed the state’s police commissioner to reinforce security measures.
