In this interview, Obhakhan talks about his much-publicized bid to become the next governor of Edo State. Excerpts: You were the Public Affairs Secretary of the now-defunct All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council. Are you satisfied with the way the ruling party is handling governance at this early stage?

I am happy with the decisions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu so far. He showed that he has the courage to make difficult decisions. This is evident from his bold statement on the abolition of fuel subsidies, which was given on his inauguration day. He has also made impeccable appointments and is engaged with key stakeholders in society. This is a sign that he came ready for the job and ready to lead Nigeria on a path of tremendous growth and development.

You speak so persuasively; how can Nigerians be certain that the benefit of eliminating the subsidy would be realized at the end of the day? What are the criteria for Nigerians to support the APC and Tinubu administrations in the long run?

The Tinubu/APC campaign promises were clearly outlined in the New Hope Action Plan released at the start of the campaign. Nigerians can apply for an APC account based on this document. As promised, we are already seeing the fulfillment of the fuel subsidy removal promise, and Mr. President also hit his own hand as he promised. Once Tinubu cabinet is fully assembled, Nigerians will begin to see the benefits of removing the subsidy. The grant-free savings will then be channeled into projects that add value to the lives of Nigerians. These include infrastructural development, better health services, education, etc.
