Ganduje swears in Meseko, five other NWC officers amid protest

Despite strong opposition from the party’s state chapters in Kogi, Abia, and Cross River, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially inaugurated six new members into its National Working Committee (NWC). Led by the National Chairman of the party, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the one-hour inauguration took place at the party’s national headquarters around 8:45 pm on Friday. This development occurred amidst protests from prominent figures including the Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, and former Senator representing Cross River South District and Abia APC. These figures criticized the election of the new officers, deeming it an imposition in contrast to the names they had initially proposed to the party.

.Yahaya Bello contested the selection of Duro Meseko as Deputy National Publicity Secretary, advocating instead for Yahaya Ismail. Similarly, figures such as Ita-Giwa and Adolphus Ogar of Cross River APC insisted that the position of National Women Leader should be granted to Dr. Stella Odey-Ekpo.Meanwhile, the Abia APC Caucus expressed their discontent with Donatus Nwankpa’s appointment as National Welfare Secretary, asserting that he was not their preferred choice.

In spite of these disputes, a lengthy meeting was held with all aggrieved parties at Ganduje’s residence on Thursday. Subsequently, the inauguration ceremony proceeded on Friday night, with the administration of oaths of office and allegiance by Notary Public Mustapha Abubakar to the new NWC members.

Among those who took their oaths were Ali Bukar Dalori (Borno State), the Deputy National Chairman for North; Garba Datti Muhammad (Kaduna), National Vice Chairman for North-West; Prof. AbdulKarim Abubakar Kana (Nasarawa), National Legal Adviser; Donatus Nwakpa (Abia), National Welfare Secretary; Mary Alile Idele, PhD (Edo), National Woman Leader; and Duro Meseko (Kogi), Deputy National Publicity Secretary.
