Gabon: Expect more military takeovers in Africa – Femi Fani Kayode

Former Ation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has offered his perspective on the recent coup in Gabon and has projected the likelihood of more military takeovers occurring in French-speaking West and Central African countries in the near future. Fani-Kayode conveyed that the coup in Gabon did not surprise him and he referred to his previous warning on this matter in an essay.

As reported by PUNCH paper, Fani-Kayode used his social media platform to express that he had anticipated the potential for coups in Francophone African nations, as he had outlined in his recent essay titled “Does Killing Nigerien Babies Bring Glory To Our Name?”. He underscored that the recent coup in Gabon, which resulted in the removal of President Ali Bongo from his 53-year rule, aligned with the concerns he had raised in his essay.

Fani-Kayode concluded his remarks by posing a rhetorical question about the potential intervention of regional entities like ECOWAS or the African Union in response to the unfolding political situation in Gabon. His observations indicate his concern for political stability in the region and a potential emerging trend of military interventions in certain African nations.
