Gabon Coup: Reactions Trail Video Of President Ali Bongo Calling For Help From Foreign Community

A few hours ago, reactions began trailing a video showing the moment embattled President of Gabon, Ali Bongo Ondimba called for help from the international community over the military coup that has deposed him from power.

According to a report posted by The PUNCH on its verified Twitter handle on Wednesday, August 30, a group of soldiers under the aegis of the The Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI), announced that they had seized power from President Bongo.

It was also gathered that while Bongo was placed on house arrest, his son was being detained in another location by the coupists.

However, in a video that was posted on Twitter by renowned CNN Correspondent in Africa, Larry Madowo, Bongo is seen urging foreign allies of his government to come to his aid, adding that he was placed under house arrest and does not know the whereabouts of his wife and son.

He said; “I am Ali Bongo Ondimba, President of Gabon. And I am sending a message to all the friends that we have all over the world. I am telling them to make noise. The people here have arrested me. My son is somewhere, my wife is in another place, and I am at the residence.

Right now, I am at the residence and nothing is happening. I don’t know what’s going on. So, I am calling on you to make noise. Please make some noise. Thank you.”

As expected, the footage has been greeted with a plethora of mixed reactions online.
