Gabon Coup: Expect More Military Takeovers In Africa' -Femi Fani-Kayode

Former Ation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has weighed in on the recent coup in Gabon and anticipated the possibility of additional military takeovers occurring in French-speaking West and Central African countries in the near future. Fani-Kayode expressed that he wasn’t surprised by the Gabon coup, as he had previously highlighted such possibilities in a recent essay.

In a statement reported by PUNCH paper, Fani-Kayode shared on his social media platform that he had previously outlined the circumstances in which coups could arise in Francophone African nations. This prediction aligned with the recent coup in Gabon, where President Ali Bongo, who had been in power for 53 years, was ousted.

Fani-Kayode further questioned whether regional bodies like ECOWAS or the African Union would consider intervening in response to the political developments in Gabon. His remarks underline a concern for the political stability of the region and the potential emergence of military interventions in certain African countries.
