French Troops Removed A President In Ivory Coast After He Insisted Votes Should Be Recounted" -Dikwa

Shettima Khalifa Dikwa, a professor of socio-linguistics and international relations, recently discussed the removal of former President Laurent Gbagbo from office and the occurrence of a ‘constitutional coup’ in Ivory Coast (Cote d’Ivoire).

During an NTA program, Dikwa highlighted that French troops played a role in ousting sitting President Laurent Gbagbo from office in Ivory Coast (Cote d’Ivoire) after Gbagbo advocated for a recount of votes following a presidential election. Subsequently, power was transferred to Alassane Ouattara, who pursued a third term in office through what Dikwa termed a “constitutional coup.” Additionally, Dikwa emphasized that both constitutional coups and military coups should not be tolerated by the ECOWAS.

Dikwa stated, “The second instance was in Cote d’Ivoire, involving Alassane Ouattara. During that time, sitting President Laurent Gbagbo insisted on a vote recount. A French troop within the country then removed Gbagbo from office and transferred power to Alassane Ouattara. After two terms, Ouattara sought a third term, which constitutes a coup, specifically a constitutional coup. The question remains: why should ECOWAS tolerate these constitutional coups? Military regimes are deemed unacceptable…”
