The former Ekiti Governor, who spoke during an interview on Hard Copy, a Channels Television programme, said the reason why the All Progressive Congress (APC), was able to defeat the PDP to clinch power in 2015 was because former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan participated in the contest. He maintained that there is a need for rotation of power in successive tenures, so that all regions would be represented in government.

Ayodele Fayose said his decision to back President Tinubu during the contest was only because of the need to have a Southern President. He maintained that Nigeria might have been facing a bigger problem if a northerner had won the election.
