Eze Onyekpere, who spoke during an interview on Channels Television, insinuated that President Tinubu might be planning to name himself Minister of Petroleum resources. According to him, the steps taken by the President were the same that former President Muhammadu Buhari took before he named himself as the Petroleum resources Minister. He, however, sought that the President should not be Minister, as he maintained that it would be difficult to hold the President accountable if anything goes wrong with the Ministry. He insisted that there are qualified individuals in Tinubu’s team that could be appointed as the Minister of Petroleum resources.

The lawyer also expressed dissatisfaction with the appointments made so far by the President. When asked if he was surprised about the portfolios of some of the nominees, he said yes. According to him, the Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake, would have been better off as the Minister of Information.
