Even in 2007, when Yar'Adua was elected, the Supreme Court at the time did not agree — Chuks Akunna

Chuks Akunna, the executive director of Authority paper, has revealed the reason why Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, the presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP), respectively, should not bother to approach the Supreme Court over the judgement of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal. He maintained that, unlike the scenario in 2007, where judges disagreed over the victory of the late Umar Musa Yar’Adua.

When Yar’Adua was first elected president in 2007, Supreme Court Justice Chuks Akunna noted, “Even then, not all the judges agreed. The five justices of the Court of Appeal agreed here, almost as if they were in on the same rehearsal.

During an interview on the AIT Television show Kakaaki, Akunna sided with Yahaya Bello, the incumbent governor of Kogi State and a staunch member of the All Progressive Congress (APC), who had urged Atiku and Obi not to appeal the tribunal’s decision to the Supreme Court. The director of the Authority newspaper claims that the Supreme Court will use the tribunal’s conclusions as the basis for its decision.

According to Akunna, contesting the Appeal Court’s decision that Tinubu won the election is unnecessary because everyone can see that all five judges agreed on that point.
