Edwin Clark Criticizes Former President Of Nigeria General Muhammadu Buhari Administration

Elder statesman Edwin Clark criticized former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari in his autobiography ‘Brutally Frank,’ accusing him of deceiving the nation with his “CHANGE” campaign mantra before the 2015 Presidential election.

In the book’s Chapter 22, Clark asserted that Buhari’s administration failed to deliver positive change and might have even worsened the situation.

Clark pointed out a perceived conspiracy against Goodluck Jonathan’s government before the 2015 election by northern factions. Following Buhari’s inauguration, he sought support from neighboring countries like Niger and Chad to strengthen the Joint Task Force against security threats. However, this effort faltered, leading to the disintegration of the force.

Clark contended that Buhari’s promises of eradicating Boko Haram within three months were unfulfilled, as the group persisted and spawned splinter factions. The author also criticized Buhari for reportedly favoring his Fulani tribe in security appointments, contrasting with his initial claim of belonging to all Nigerians.

The elder statesman lamented the nation’s current state, highlighting challenges such as insecurity, corruption, unemployment, and inflation. He criticized Buhari for allegedly acting more like a military dictator than a democratic leader, citing instances where the President interfered with state governments’ functions and issued orders later declared void by the Supreme Court.

Clark criticized Buhari’s handling of the media, stating that the freedom of the press he pledged had eroded due to the actions of the Information Minister, Lai Mohammed. He also addressed the lack of progress in implementing restructuring, despite promises made by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party.

Edwin Clark’s autobiography ‘Brutally Frank’ critiques former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, questioning the fulfillment of his promises, criticizing his leadership style, and highlighting various challenges faced by Nigeria under his rule.
