Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’ s administration for its lack of clear plans and solutions following the removal of fuel subsidy. Obaseki expressed his shock and concern over the government’ s failure to address the economic challenges faced by Nigerians affected by the subsidy removal.

According to ARISE TV, he condemned Tinubu’ s government for its inability to support the victims of this policy decision. Speaking to journalists in Benin City on August 23, Governor Obaseki expressed his disbelief that the same government that campaigned on the promise of removing subsidies, had no concrete plans in place for the aftermath of the subsidy removal.

He criticized the government its failure to address the economic challenges faced by Nigerians.

He emphasized that they seemed unaware of how to support those who would be adversely affected by the removal. Obaseki expressed his disappointment that the government had no strategy or solution to tackle the resulting economic consequences.

The Edo state government, in response to the removal of fuel subsidy, has shown sympathy towards its citizens who are experiencing the subsequent increase in the cost of goods and services.

Governor Godwin Obaseki announced on June 6 that civil and public servants would operate on a three- day workweek instead of five days to allete the burden of increased transportation expenses.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’ s administration has also announced N5 billion palliatives for each state in the federation, including the federal capital territory. These palliatives are intended to mitigate the impact of the petrol subsidy removal on Nigerians.
