Edo Deputy Gov: Obaseki wants to impeach me

Edo Deputy Governor Philips Shaibu has alleged Governor Godwin Obaseki has perfected a plot to impeach him.

He requested special court protection from Obaseki’s impeachment plot so that he can function as Deputy Governor of the South-South State.

The Nation report that, Shaibu, in a suit filed at the Federal High Court Abuja, listed the Inspector General of Police, State Security Service, Edo Governor, Edo Speaker and Edo Chief Judge, as defendants.

He alleged the Governor was using security operatives as well as Edo Speaker and Chief Judge to perfect the plots to have him impeached.

He asserted the following in the affidavit he swore to and which The Nation obtained: “I know that this case is all about the action of the third defendant in preventing me from performing the duties of my office as deputy governor of Edo and using the first and second defendants to harass, intimidate, and embarrass me with the fourth and fifth defendants in tandem with the desire of the third defendant to impeach me.

The Nation report that, The court urgently has to intervene by restraining the third defendant and all other defendants functioning jointly with him since he has devised plans to impeach me.

After the Deputy Governor was seen in a widely shared video holding hands with Senator Adams Oshimohole during the opening of the 10th National Assembly in Abuja, the nation concluded that Obaseki and Shaibu’s spat had begun.

According to information obtained, the Governor without his Deputy summoned every member of the Edo Assembly to his residence to review the developments in Benin.

The Deputy Governor is claimed to have immediately driven to the residence after learning about the meeting but was turned away at the door.

Shaibu reportedly received the humiliating news from DSS agents that he was not included on the list of invitees.

The Nation report that, The Deputy Governor allegedly turned to court battles to preserve his position and career.

Shaibu was chasing shadows, a Governor’s assistant admitted.

“Philip is not serious,” the assistant remarked. He is not wanted to leave. He really wants the governor to support him for governor, that much is true. The Governor claims that he is not engaging in politics at this time since it is too early and that he would rather focus on governance until the next year. But Philip can’t stay still. He intends to get the Governor to leave.

However, a reliable source claimed that the governor does not want to be provoked. The Deputy Governor is not wanted to leave. The source claimed that he was “chasing shadows.”
