DSS Reportedly Arrests CBN Deputy Gov, Ahmad Over Alleged Fraud

According to Daily Post Nigeria, the Department of State Security Service (DSS) has reportedly arrested the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Aisha Ahmad, in connection with an alleged fraudulent acquisition of shares in Polaris Bank and Titan Bank (Union Bank).

Aisha Ahmad is said to be facing allegations related to her involvement in the acquisition of shares in Polaris Bank and Titan Bank, and the interrogation of how $300 million was raised by Titan Bank to complete the acquisition of Union Bank in 2022.

The DSS, when contacted by Channels Television, declined to confirm or deny the arrest or invitation of Aisha Ahmad. Peter Afunanya, the spokesman for DSS, emphasized that investigations may involve inviting individuals for questioning, and such actions are conducted within the framework of the law.

This development follows the arrest and continued detention of Aisha Ahmad’s former boss, Godwin Emefiele, who served as the Governor of the CBN. Godwin Emefiele has been in DSS custody for approximately two months, following his suspension from office on June 9.

The allegations surrounding the acquisition of shares in Polaris Bank, Titan Bank, and the utilization of funds for the acquisition of Union Bank have raised significant concerns within the financial sector. The investigation into these matters underscores the commitment to transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s financial institutions.

It is essential to note that during investigations, individuals may be invited for questioning by relevant authorities. The due process of law will be followed to ascertain the veracity of the allegations and determine appropriate actions based on the outcome of the investigation.

As the situation unfolds, more details are expected to emerge regarding the allegations and the status of Aisha Ahmad. The public and relevant stakeholders will be closely following developments related to this case.
