The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, has urged Nigerians to continue to bear the hardship occasioned by the subsidy removal.

He assured Nigerians that the pain would soon come to an end, adding that there would also be an improvement in the standard of living.

Akume noted that the president, Bola Tinubu meant well for the country, assuring Nigerians that he won’t disappoint them.

He spoke when a delegation of the North Central People’s Forum led by Sardauna Plateau, Senator Jeremiah Useni visited him in Abuja on Monday.

Barring any last minute change, President Bola Tinubu is expected to send the list of ministerial nominees to the Senate for screening this week.

The President is expected, by law, to forward the list of ministerial nominees to the National Assembly 60 days from the date he takes the oath of office.

The administration of Tinubu was inaugurated on May 29, when the former President Muhammadu Buhari handed over the mantle of leadership to him.

Going by the constitutional provision of the 60 days, the President is left with about 10 days to constitute his cabinet.

Presidency sources hinted that the list of ministerial nominees has been prepared for a long time but there have been adjustments in the list.

Emefiele’s Detention: Experts Raise Concern Over Economic Impacts

Economic experts have raised fears that the continuous detention of the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele may cause a set of distrust in the country’s financial system.

Mr. Emefiele is currently being held in detention for over 30 days by the State Security Service (SSS) for having a shot barrel gun and live cartridges with expired licence.

Professor of economics at University of Benin Hassan Oaikenan said failure of the authorities to provide a watertight case against Emefiele and his removal from office could create a cobweb of distrust over the financial system and cause panic and fear to rip through the system, causing a possible hurricane of investments’ reversal out of Nigeria’s ailing economy.

The Nigerian economy is already lying comatose, with serious and genuine foreign investors having left the country in droves and progressively over the years, given the hostile business in the country, as evidenced by the country’s consistent poor showing in several key indicators of the soundness of an economy, such as ease of doing business, country competitiveness indicators, corruption perception index, etc.

For the embattled national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and the national scribe, Senator Iyiola Omisore, it was fait accompli that was doomed to happen.

After several weeks of intrigues in the six-week President Bola Tinubu administration, the night of long knives eventually caught up with the duo at the weekend, when, according to sources, they had to comply with the advice to resign coming from the top.

The APC chairman was advised to throw in the towel by Hope Uzodinma, governor of Imo State and chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF).

The civilian coup, it was gathered, was to pave the way for the progressive arm of the party to fully take charge to complement President Tinubu’s agenda for the country.
