Dele Momodu Reacts to an Old Video of Festus Okoye Saying that the Use of the BVAS is Mandatory.

Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dele Momodu has taken to social media to air his opinion, following an old video of former INEC’s information and voter education Chairman, Festus Okoye, announcing that INEC presiding officers must make use of their BVAS machines during the voting process and transmission of the results of the 2023 general elections, which he shared online.

In the video which was uploaded on the official Instagram page of Nigerian journalist, Dele Momodu few hours ago, Festus Okoye could be heard saying that section 47 subsection 2 of the Electoral Act 2022, makes it mandatory that to vote, the presiding officer must make use of the smart card reader prescribed by the commission for the accreditation of voters to authenticate the particulars of intending voters in the manner prescribed by the commission.

According to Festus Okoye, the use of BVAS is a mandatory provision of the law and it is not an option of charity, adding that the Commission will transmit polling unit level results in real time because it is a mandatory provision of the law as found in section 6 subsection 4 of the Electoral Act 2022.
