Defamation: Natasha Akpoti drags Yahaya Bello, others to court

By G9ija

Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in Kogi Central for the 2023 elections, has taken Yahaya Bello, the governor of Kogi State, and others to court for linking her to terrorism.

The state government and Kingsley Fanwo, in charge of information and communications for the state, are also being sued.

The Kogi State government asked the heads of Nigeria’s security agencies to question Mrs. Akpoti-Uduaghan about alleged terrorism that could take the state back to “the dark era,” according to a statement by Fanwo.
Fanwo said that the PDP senatorial candidate had done enough to be questioned about terrorism, such as when the PDP and organizations linked to her called for the release of an alleged terrorist.

In the lawsuit that Natasha’s lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), filed on her behalf on November 11, 2022, she said that the State government’s statement was false and hurt her reputation.

So, she asked the court to order the defendants to pay her N5 billion in damages.

The Kogi State Government had said before that it was worried that some politicians were training terrorists in the state and bringing them in from neighboring States, even though Governor Bello had tried to get rid of terrorism in the state.
