Dabiri-Erewa hails AFS award winner for young global citizens

Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission,has described Noel Ifeanyi Alumona as an inspiration to Nigerians in the Diaspora, especially the young adults, who are constantly seeking to improve their home country positively and also making impacts in their host country.

Dabiri-Erewa stated this when she received the Founder and Director, Boys Champions, Noel Ifeanyi Alumona at the NiDCOM office in Abuja.

The NIDCOM boss who has been supporting and championing the cause of Diaspora, expressed her joy to Alumona on his well deserved award being the first African to attain that height.

She encouraged the Director Boys Champions to help make a difference in the lives of younger Nigerians and urged him to be part of the Nigerians in Diaspora Homestring Programme.

The NiDCOM boss assured Alumona that this is the beginning of a fruitful relationship between the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission and the team Boys Champions for strategic engagements.

Alumona is an Enugu state indigene based in United States and is the first Nigerian and African to win the American Field Service (AFS) Award for Young Global Citizens since its inception in 1914.

Alumona stated that he won the award for giving young boys the opportunities they need to become agents of peace and change, fighting the cause of women and the girl child.

He was quoted saying, “It is not just about making impact in America but bringing those positive impacts home and translating them here in our country. So we can also continue to create a change here in Nigeria.”

The award was presented during the International Youth Day organised by the United Nations Global Communications Department, the AFSIntercultural Programs and The Youth Assembly.

Alumona is a graduate of Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College, School of Education and presently a Research and Teaching assistant in the same university in Nashville, Tennessee United States.
