Coup: We Should not be quiet because of internal differences and allow this to happen- Doyin Okupe

Dr. Doyin Okupe, the former Director General of the Obi-Datti presidential campaign, expressed his strong patriotism by stating that Niger Republic cannot degrade Nigeria, and he will not tolerate such behavior. This statement was made by Okupe in a recent tweet on his official Twitter account, in response to the news of a military coup in Niger and the intervention of ECOWAS to restore democracy and peace in the country.

Doyin Okupe who may have been following the news reacted that,

“I am not suggesting we go to war with Niger. But Niger cannot rubbish Nigeria. I as a patriot will not take that. We should not be quiet because of internal differences and allow this to happen. Presidents are not permanent. We must all protect that seat else it’s not worth fighting for.

At present, Niger is under military rule, as the democratically elected President Bazoum was overthrown by military personnel on July 26th, 2023. President Tinubu, who is also the chairman of ECOWAS, condemned the coup after meeting with other ECOWAS leaders last Sunday. He issued a 7-day ultimatum to restore democracy in Niger.

In an effort to restore democracy in Niger, President Tinubu has written a letter to the Senate seeking their support. This action demonstrates his determination to ensure that democratic governance is reinstated in the country.

Dr. Doyin Okupe’s tweet reflects his unwavering loyalty to Nigeria and his refusal to accept any disrespect from Niger Republic. As a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, his statement carries weight and highlights the importance of maintaining strong diplomatic relations between the two nations.
