BAT was the one that persuaded El-Rufai to change his mind only for the Senate to embarrass him–Sani

Former National Publicity Secretary of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Mr. Anthony Sani, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu convinced Nasir El Rufai to reconsider joining his cabinet, only for the Senate to subsequently embarrass the former Kaduna state governor. Mr. Sani expressed his belief that El Rufai was treated unjustly by the Senate and that the situation could have been handled more appropriately if the President no longer required his services.

According to Tribune paper, Mr. Sani stated his displeasure with the treatment meted out to Nasir El Rufai, expressing that he did not approve of the way the former governor was unduly humiliated. He highlighted that El Rufai had publicly announced his decision to step away from public service, but President Buhari persuaded him to change his mind. However, Mr. Sani contends that the Senate’s response to this situation was an embarrassment for El Rufai.

Despite not being a supporter of El Rufai due to his perceived focus on duty over humanity, Mr. Sani maintained that the Senate’s treatment of him was unfair. This perspective underscores the belief that the situation could have been managed with greater respect and consideration for El Rufai’s standing and contributions.

He said; ”I do not like the way former governor Nasir El Rufai was unduly mortified. Here was a situation where the former governor had said publicly that he was done with public service. It was Mr President who persuaded him [El Rufai] to change his mind only for the Senate to embarrass him. I am not a fan of the former governor precisely because he is a grim man who loves duty more than humanity. I still think the former governor has not been treated by the Senate fairly.”
