The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Wike Nyesom, has denied using a N300m bulletproof car as his official vehicle.

There were reports that Wike recently took delivery of a luxurious bulletproof car worth N300 million with the plate number “FCT 01.”

However, in a chat with journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, Wike refuted the reports, saying the car he is using as FCT Minister is not bulletproof.

He said as Governor of Rivers State, he used a bulletproof car, but not anymore as minister.

Wike said, “We can see what is going on social media; how they bought a bulletproof car of N300 million that I’m using. So, I want you people to go and hit your hands there [on the car] and see really whether it is a treated car.

Stakeholders under the aegis of Niger Delta Women League (NDWL) have called on the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, to resign over pronouncements he made while presiding over plenary at the Red Chamber.

The women said by making remarks such as “let the poor breath, as well as telling lawmakers that tokens have been sent to their bank accounts for use during the ongoing recess,” the Senate President “has desecrated the hallowed chambers by adding insults to the economic injuries of the Nigerian man on the streets.”

The NDWL in a statement on Wednesday regretted that though he came to the Senate “with so much baggage,” and ought to make a difference, Senator Akpabio has failed to “break from his checkered past.”

Niger: Algeria, Egypt oppose military action, seek dialogue

Algeria and Egypt have moved against military intervention in the Niger Republic, insisting that dialogue remains the best option out of the current political crisis in the country.

Recall that West African leaders had, in the aftermath of the coup that toppled President Mohamed Bazoum, threatened to embark on military intervention in the Sahel country should the coup leaders, led by General Abdourahmane Tchiani, fail to restore democracy in the country and the ousted president to power.

Oppositions to military option have also come from prominent individuals and groups in Nigeria, including the National Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Jama’atu Nasril Islam, JNI, Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, and Northern Elders Forum, NEF, among others.

While also advocating dialogue to resolve the crisis in Niger, they contended that any military operation in the country could create problems for Nigeria, being its closest neighbour.
