Tinubu asks for the approval N500b for Palliativea

President Bola Tinubu has asked the national assembly to approve N500 billion to allow the federal government to provide palliatives to cushion the effects of petrol subsidy removal on Nigerians.

Tinubu’s request is contained in a letter sent to the national assembly and read by Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the house, during plenary on Wednesday.

The letter proposed an amendment to the 2022 supplementary appropriate act.

“I write to the house of reps to approve the amendment of the 2022 supplementary appropriation act in accordance to the attached,” the letter reads.

Gunmen Kill Police lnspector, Cart Away Rifle In Delta

Barely two months after some policemen were killed in Ughelli, gunmen have killed a police inspector in Ughelli, Ughelli North local government area of Delta state on Wednesday evening.

The deceased cop, identified as Jude Ukpaka, and two of his colleagues were reportedly attacked in the van at a check-point along the Ogor-Evwreni-Ughelli axis of the East-West Road in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.

Ukpaka, attached to Dragon 19 Security Patrol Team of the Ughelli Area command was shot dead and his Ak-47 service rifle confiscated by the suspected gunmen.

The other officers who were also attacked escaped into the swamp.

Police Nab Attackers Of Apostle Suleman’s Convoy

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested Yusuf Ismael Isah, 32 years old man from Okene, Kogi State, for attacking the convoy of Apostle Johnson Suleman, the founder of Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide, Auchi, on October 21, 2022, along Benin – Auchi road, wherein six people, including three police personnel were gruesomely murdered.

This followed an investigation by the operatives of FIB-IRT on the trail of the assailants.

Two members of the 7-man gang were gunned-down in separate encounters with the Police and the other four are at large.

Isah, a native of Okene, Kogi State and a plumber, at Agbaraoluwa Phase 2 Ijoka, Akure, Ondo State was arrested with five Ak47 Rifles, two K2 Assault rifles, 180 live ammunition and four suspected IEDs all found in his apartment.

Force PRO, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said investigations revealed that the suspect was part of the 7-man gang responsible for the attack on the convoy of the Apostle and some of the rifles found in his possession were in fact rifles snatched from the three police officers slain during the October 21, 2022 attack.

Speaking to the journalists, the suspect confessed that he joined the vicious gang in 2021 after he was freed from Olokuta Correctional Center where he was on remand since 2019 for alleged involvement in armed robbery.

His contributions to democracy are indelible’ — Tinubu hails Soyinka at 89 

President Bola Tinubu has sent a congratulatory message to Wole Soyinka, Nobel laureate, on his 89 birthday celebration. 

In a statement on Thursday by Dele Alake, special adviser on special duties, communications and strategy, the president described Soyinka as a veritable source of support, inspiration and encouragement to many.

Tinubu, who described Soyinka as an Iroko (an African tree known for strength, durability and rot resistance), acknowledged the Nobel laureate’s struggle for the restoration and entrenchment of democracy and good governance in Nigeria.

The president commended the literary icon for his immense contributions to the country’s development.
