APC National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu Resigns, Reports Say

According to PM , multiple reports on Monday morning from other sources such as the Guardian and the Daily Post indicate that Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the current Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has tendered his resignation.

Adamu, who previously served as the governor of Nasarawa State, allegedly made this decision to preempt his potential removal from office.

The Western Post, a source closely associated with the APC leadership, reported that Adamu’s resignation was prompted by various concerns, including his lack of support for President Bola Tinubu during the campaign period.

Throughout the previous fortnight, certain factions within the party have been urging him to step down, warning that they would oust him during the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) gathering scheduled for this week if he refused to comply.

Originally planned for July 10 and 11, the party’s NEC meeting had to be rescheduled to Tuesday and Wednesday of this week due to the president’s commitments abroad.

The insider additionally disclosed that Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, was among those who advised Adamu to resign as he had transformed into a burden for the party.

However, he faced compelled resignation from his position as the party chairman when Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, who also serves as the Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, conveyed to him that if he refused to resign, he would be ousted during the forthcoming NEC meeting.

Those demanding Adamu’s resignation have alleged that he acted against the President’s interests during the party’s presidential primaries.

They claim that he openly endorsed former Senate President Ahmed Lawan and failed to wholeheartedly support Tinubu, even after securing the party’s nomination.

Additionally, Adamu has been accused of mishandling the party’s finances. Reporters reached out to Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, SMS but did not receive a response.
