APC crisis: Abdullahi Adamu denies rift with Tinubu

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has refuted reports that there is a disagreement between him and President Bola Tinubu on the direction of the government party.

Following the selection of Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Godwills Akpabio, President of the Senate, as the National Assembly’s presiding officers, rumors of a leadership rift inside the party gained pace.

According to certain reports, Adamu ordered the leadership of the federal parliamentary house to submit their whole list for approval to the APC National Working Committee (NWC), but sadly, this order was not followed. Adamu’s directive reportedly had the support of members of the NWC. Some disgruntled members of the ruling party perceived the decision as a confrontation with the party by the House leadership.

BusinessDay discovered that Adamu had endorsed former Senate President Ahmed Lawan before the APC’s presidential primaries. Many viewed this as a direct challenge to Tinubu’s ambition and a protest against what was going on within the party.

On Arise Television Night on Tuesday, Adamu made an appearance and denied disagreeing with President Tinubu. He claimed that individuals who disapproved of his leadership style for the party and the media were spreading this myth.

According to The Punch, the National Chairman continued by saying that every member of his staff actively backed the president, joining him in campaign events across the nation and organizing sufficient grassroots support to guarantee his win.

Adamu said it is sad that people have “vilified” their effort because of the way skeptics and political opponents have attacked his Excos’ attempt to ensure the president’s electoral victory.

He continued by saying that he expected all Nigerians to recognize and respect the sacrifices made by his Excos to secure success for his candidate and party in the general elections.

For those who seek to keep circulating untruths about a rift between him and the president, Adamu stated that he and the president will continue to have a positive working relationship.
