The suspension of Godwin Emefiele by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was announced on Friday, with immediate effect. The decision was made in the context of an ongoing investigation into Emefiele’s office and planned reforms in the financial sector. According to a statement from the Director of Information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey, Emefiele has been instructed to hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, who will act as the Central Bank Governor during the investigation and reforms.

Regarding the reported arrest, Rufai Oseni disclosed that an Arise News correspondent reached out to DSS spokesperson Dr. Peter Afunanya, who stated that he could not provide any confirmation at the moment.
