Ministerial list: Why Tinubu withdrew my name – Maryam Shetty

Remember when Bola Tinubu’s ministerial list was initially sent to the senate for approval before Maryam Shetty’s name was later removed? After much discussion, Maryam Shetty has now revealed the primary reason why her name was removed off the list of cabinet candidates.

According to a report by Vanguard , Maryam Shetty claimed that being chosen was proof of her competence and that the country was ready to advance young women from the most conventional settings to positions of responsibility. Shetty, a Kano State native whose nomination was withdrawn in favor of Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, said this in a statement yesterday.

I have found myself in the middle of a significant era in Nigeria’s political history, she remarked. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recommended me for a ministerial position, which was a choice that I truly regarded as an honor. This was a significant step towards a more inclusive national representation coming from the traditional, conservative sections of northern Nigeria.

“Words cannot express how ecstatic and honored I felt to be nominated. It was a sign that my abilities and vision had been recognized, and that our great nation was ready to embrace a future in which young women like me, even from the most traditional parts of Nigeria, could hold positions of influence and power.
