PEPT: Peter Obi Records His First Win Against Tinubu In The Ongoing Presidential Election Judgement

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, has recorded his first win against President Bola Tinubu after the Presidential Election Tribunal struck out a case filed by APC challenging the eligibility of the Labour Party candidate to contest for the 2023 presidential election. According to Daily Trust paper, the court made the ruling after considering opposition to Obi’s emergence as the candidate of the Labour Party having defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The court held that the decision on who emerges as a candidate of a political party is an “internal affair” of the Labour Party and all other parties and therefore Tinubu’s request lacked competence.

This is the first win recorded by the Labour Party candidate in the ongoing election petition at the tribunal. Mr Obi, however, suffered a setback because the tribunal also struck out part of his petition citing that he failed to specify the polling units where he was rigged by the ruling party.
