Niger Military Junta Must Be Held Accountable For Putting The Lives Of The People In Jeopardy-Tinubu

Following a military takeover of power in Niger through a bloodless coup on July 26, 2023. The authorities of the ECOWAS headed by President Tinubu have insisted that the Niger Coup junta must return power to the ousted President Mohamed Bazoum. As he has noted in a statement that was released recently that the Niger Coup military leaders must be held responsible for endangering the lives of Niger residents.

According to a news report by the Sahara reporters, After a briefing President Tinubu had with the delegation of Islamic Scholars (Ulamas) led by Sheikh Bauchi, who were reported to have gone to Niger Republic to dialogue with the Military Coup junta on behalf of ECOWAS to facilitate the return of constitutional power to the deposed elected President. 

President Tinubu said in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale. That the military junta must be held accountable for putting the lives of the entire people of Niger Republic in jeopardy, that they cannot use their guns against the people there swore to protect.

His words;

”Niger Military Junta cannot use the gun given to them to protect the sovereignty of the country (Niger) and turn it against the people of the country”.

Nevertheless, It was also stated the President Tinubu asked the Niger-Ecowas dialogue committee to return to Niamey, Niger’s capital, to continue their dialogue with the coup junta to resolve the political crisis in the country.
