"A 33% Of The Total Votes Cast In An Election Gives The President A Serious Minority" -Osita Chidoka

Osita Chidoka, a former Minister of Ation, has asserted in a video (10:40) that President Bola Tinubu’s possession of only 33% of the total votes cast in the last election places him in a minority position, which hinders the execution of his agendas. In an interview with Channels TV news, Chidoka highlighted public disapproval of recent government actions and emphasized the necessity of public support for the successful implementation of significant plans.

Chidoka stated, “Consider the Nigerian public’s response to events like the conflict in Niger and the removal of Fuel Subsidy. If the Nigerian people believe in the government’s broad legitimacy, challenges wouldn’t arise. This points to a need for amendments to our laws, suggesting that Presidential candidates falling short of securing 50% plus one of the votes cast should enter a run-off. A mere 33% of the total votes presents the President with a significant minority, making it challenging to advance substantial agendas.”
