The presidential candidate of the Labour Party for the 2023 elections in Nigeria, Peter Obi, has reacted to a report that he offered the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Rabiu Kwankwaso, N40 billion to step down for him.

The Eagle Online recalls that they were in talks over who among them would serve as running mate for a joint ticket.

Obi, who spoke at a forum organised by the Nigeria Guild of Editors in Lagos on Monday, said he did not offer Kwankwaso or any other person money in the course of pursuing his ambition.

He also said he has been the one funding his campaign contrary to reports that he had been given $115 million.

He said any other thing being done were independent of his Campaign Office by those who believe in his cause.

He said that was the reason he set up a fund monitoring office, headed by renowned activist, Aisha Yesufu, so he could be held accountable for funds received and spent during his campaign.

Obi told the Editors: “I never offered anybody one naira to step down for me.

“I will not do so to become president.

“That does not mean I am not spending on campaign.

“Let me tell you in clear term: I can tell you as at today, nobody is funding Peter Obi.

“I am funding myself, but if I see any person who wants to fund, I will take.”
