Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Robert Clark, has pinpointed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as Nigeria’s foremost issue within the electoral system. During an interview on Channels Television In a video (1:30), he suggested a crucial change in the law to address this problem.
Robert Clark emphasized that modifying the law to mandate INEC to conduct elections and provide a detailed account of their process would be a significant improvement. INEC would need to present evidence of how they conducted the elections, enabling the court to assess the job’s correctness based on this evidence. He argued that INEC currently holds too much authority in determining the correctness of election results, and this should change.
According to Robert Clark, the preponderance of correctness attributed to INEC’s election conduct is the primary reason why INEC poses a significant challenge in Nigeria’s electoral system.
