PDP crisis: Atiku, Tambuwal, Lamido should be suspended – Wike

Former Governor of Rivers State and current minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has called on the National Working Committee, NWC, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to suspend the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar.

The Minister and chieftain of the PDP also want the likes of Sule Lamido and Aminu Tambuwal suspended from the main opposition party. Speaking in an interview on Channels Television, Wike said he and members of the G5 should be congratulated for fighting for justice, equity, and fairness within the party.

He said, “I’m calling on the National Working Committee of the party to, as a matter of urgency, suspend the presidential candidate of the party, suspend Aminu Tambuwal, suspend Sule Lamido …” Asked why he thinks he shouldn’t be suspended too, Wike added, “They know I didn’t do anything wrong. They should be congratulating us for fighting for equity, fairness, and justice.

Government orders closure of Osun Poly

Osun State Government has ordered the closure of The Osun State Polytechnic, Iree Campus, for two weeks.

The directive for the closure is coming following the return of suspended Rector, Tajudeen Odetayo. The order for closure was issued by the state government in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Education, Dipo Eluwole on Thursday.

This is to inform the general public, particularly members of staff and students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree to proceed on a two-week break, with immediate effect. The immediate break is a necessary action to maintain peace in the Institution consequent upon the forceful return of the suspended Rector, Dr. T.A. Odetayo.

Two suspected cultists arrested in Ogun

The police in Ogun State have arrested two men said to be suspected members of the Eiye confraternity.

The arrest of the suspects followed an operation led by the DPO of the Agbado division, CSP Adekunle Awoniyi, on September 4. The DPO had led the operation, in response to a tip-off about cult-related activities in the Fadahunsi area of Ogun State. Omolola Odutola, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun, told newsmen in a statement that the prompt response of the police had “quelled the disturbances caused by the cultists, leading to the arrest of two individuals at the scene: Sodiq Idowu, 27 years and Yusuf Wahab, 25 years.”

Odutola disclosed that “both suspects have confessed to being members of the Eiye confraternity and have provided valuable information that will aid the police in apprehending other fleeing suspects involved in cultist activities.” According to her, the duo had provided details about the syndicate, the location of their armorer and the whereabouts of weapons being used in their “criminal activities.”

Man stabs friend to death over food

A man identified simply as John has lost his life after his friend, Akinola Adeleye, allegedly stabbed him to death over an argument on who to pay for a plate of food.

The incident happened in the Ifako Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos State. It was gathered that the two men had a misunderstanding over who should pay for the plate of meal Akinola had eaten and in the course of the argument that degenerated into a fight, Akinola stabbed John to death with a knife. PUNCH Metro learned from some residents in the area that the sad event happened two weeks ago on Idiagbon Street adjacent to the local government headquarters.

It was further gathered that the victim had been squatting in the house of the suspect when they had the fallout over who would pay for a plate of food. A resident in the area, Ugochukwu, narrating what happened to our correspondent on Wednesday, said, “It happened that Akinola went and ate a plate of food in their usual buka and after eating instead of paying he asked them to add his bill to the account of his friend who wasn’t there with him at that time.
